Don’t have Buyers Remorse! Get Titanium Rings!

There was a fantastic sale on titanium rings the other day, and I’m kicking myself for not taking advantage of the value that was being given. It’s not everyday an opportunity to own a piece of jewelry made of the toughest metal known on the planet! I mean, for once in my life I would have been king! I would have had the absolute best that money could buy! But I didn’t act, and now I am regretting it more and more… There is a reason titanium is the best, and I should have been smart enough to get when the getting was good!

A wino can have a great time in Iowa

My girlfriend is a wino but not in a bad way. She just enjoys her wine and I enjoy helping her enjoy it. One of our favorite things to do is to go to different wine making places such as Penoach Vineyard. It is an easy way to wile away an entire day going from place to place and tasting all of their wares. Or it is an easy date to go to one of the formal diners that they have. Each course comes with a different wine and they really hope you buy a case or two to take home. We usually just get a bottle even though most prices are quite reasonable.

Mental Health Expert Author Scott Wolfenden

My Name is Scott Wolfenden. I am from New Jersey and work in the Newark Public School System.  Most of my articles are on the subject of children, mental health and related topics. I’ve taught in public schools in Paterson, NJ and Newark, NJ, as well as a short time in Carteret, NJ, for the past four years. My BA  is in Social Science from Thomas Edison State College  in Trenton, NJ with a minor in Psychology. The emphasis in studies has been related to children’s issues,  as well as early education, as has been most of my writing. I have written a book entitled Happy Healthy Children in the 21st Century, Overcoming ADHD and the ART of Prevention, Karnac Books, London, currently scheduled for publication in July 2008.

I have taught hundreds of special education students and first became interested in ADHD in Edison and Paterson, NJ, with students who had the disorder, and also, in reading Sandra Reif’s well known book on the subject. I felt that medication for children was counterproductive in the long run, when treating ADHD, and also, excessive time with video games, television and movies, as well as other forms of media, contributed to many children’s attentional problems.

In speaking and working with many professionals, both educational psychologists and teachers, special education, and early childhood, many have been concerned about the excessive use of medication in treating children. Diane Levin, PhD is a well known author who has written prolifically on the subject of violence and children, as well as the sexualizing of children in advertising and the media, in  a book to be released in August of 2008, and Sharna Olfman has also written a number of excellent books on the subject of the overuse of medication in treating children of both ADHD and bipolar disorder.

It would seem that there is much that can be done to treat many mental health conditions in both children, teens and adults. Art is a positive contribution to a child’s skills and it can help many children with ADHD and bipolar disorder, as well as persons with OCD, to be able to stabilize, focus and it serves as something of a natural tranquilizer for many.

For persons with depression, daily exercise, particularly brisk walking, for 45 minutes or so a day, has proven to be more effective than medication for many in clinical studies. There are many other examples of natural remedies for mental health disorders. Not all of which are easily treated, and some of which require professional counseling and treatment. However, medication as a first line of  treatment is usually not necessary, especially with children and teens, and often times can be treated successfully without medication through attention to lifestyle issues, cognitive-behavioral therapy, which includes lifestyle changes such as less media time, and less intensity in the hours one spends with media time and seeking out morepeaceful and calming activities.

There are many books that give excellent guidelines for persons with depression, such as psychologist Joel Robertson’s Natural Prozac, one of the best books on depression, and also, Dr. Joel Nigg’s book, What Causes ADHD? Also, an excellent reference.

Great Portrait Photography

When it comes to portrait photography, there are two very important things you need to remember about taking a portrait.  There’s a subject and the setup.

Let’s talk about the setup first.

When it comes to lighting, you should use it to accentuate the subject.  You should use soft lighting – that means a bare halogen bulb pointing straight at someone’s face is a bad idea.  Instead, use window lighting or a softbox.  Harsh lighting can create shadows that make your pictures turn out quite poorly, so do spend a little time making sure the lighting is setup well.

When you take pictures, shot from eye level or above.  How many great photos have you seen that have been taken from below?  Probably very few or none.  That’s because nobody looks good when the photographer is shooting from an upward angle.  It makes the person’s head look tiny and in general looks awful.

If all else fails, then don’t be afraid to use the portrait setting on your digital camera.  For many pictures it will be good enough.

Angel Paintball Guns – My View

As someone who has been playing paintball for a few years, I’ve seen my fair share of markers in my day, and used most of the top guns on the field. Lately there’s been a competitor who has been giving manufacturers like Tippmann a run for their money. Of course I’m talking about Angel paintball guns. But are they worth the higher price. First, Angel makes some amazing markers. They’re clearly high end and will give you an edge, no one can argue that. Ask yourself how important it is that the next time you go out on the field you’re using the best gear you can find. If that’s what you’re after, you can’t do better than an Angel in my opinion.

Are Film Tax Credits cost-effective?

This question is far more complicated than most policy makers and analysts typically realize.  To adequately address the question, you must evaluate the fiscal impact of the film tax credits and the a economic impact of the expenditures and job creation that they generate.  Other important questions include are there other alternative public policy initiatives that might be more cost-effective in creating jobs than film tax credits or are there other incentives that might more cost effectively create a business climate that attracts film production.

These questions must be weighed against each other to evalute the competitiveness of various states in attracting film production and the effectiveness of the public policy question asking whether film tax credits are cost-effective.

A wild guitar buyer adventure!

Is it written somewhere in some great and ancient annals that in order for one to have an adventure, there must be peril, loss of life or limb, and a trip to some exotic land? Well, maybe that is right, but I am personal proof that you can have an adventure right in your own living room! For example, I discovered myself being quite bored in my apartment last weekend and I was just vegging out. All of a sudden, Christine, my next door neighbor, throws open my door and screams that a famous guitar buyer was downstairs and giving away a free guitar! Needless to say, that little adventure led to Christine and I getting married 2 weeks later!

RV Gas Mileage

If you’re looking to save the world and reduce the amount of gasoline you use, then class A motorhomes probably aren’t for you.  However, if you’re in the market for a class A motorhome, you’re probably wondering just how much gas these vehicles take to run.  Many entry level motorhomes run on gasoline, but at the higher end, diesel is almost exclusively the fuel of choice.

The fuel capacity of these vehicles start at around 100 gallons and can exceed 150 gallons.  If you’re thinking that’s as much as a semi, you’re right.  Keep in mind that some motorhomes are also just as big as a semi.

There are no hybrids available in the motorhome world (yet!).  However, if you want more fuel efficiency, then go for the diesel models.  They cost a little more initially, but if you plan on driving your RV across the country, it’s a worthwhile investment.

When working entry level jobs, get the real scoop by talking to other employees

One of the great things about entry level jobs is that you will have plenty of time to find out what a company is really all about. These types of jobs require a minimum of commitment, and are relatively easy to secure — this means that if you find that a company is not well-liked by its employees, you can take immediate measures to secure employment elsewhere. In your entry level position, make it a point to talk often with experienced employees — they can be very useful as a source of information which will help you to make up your mind whether or not you want to make him a more permanent employment commitment.

225 Corner Bathtubs

“Okay boys! Lets get those tubs off the truck and get them upstairs!” Jimmy, the foreman, instructed his crew. It was a simple job really, being a plumber. He loved this kind of work. Knowing that people relied on his skills, and to know that people that stayed at this new hotel which he and his crew were installing all 225 corner bathtubs that were standard for all of the rooms, would depend on he and his crews works to be able to enjoy the pleasures of a simple bath. Personally, these were Jimmy’s favorite to install, for whatever reason, they were just more fun because of the angle they were put in. He smiled and moved toward the truck to help unload the tubs.

How Do You Remove Unwanted Facial Hair

I worked with a gal who had facial hair above her lip and a bit of a beard. She waxed those areas herself to remove the hair. As I entered menopause I developed hair above my lip and around my cheek and chin areas. I wasn’t sure what type of facial hair removal technique I wanted to use. I wasn’t crazy about waxing due to the pain. I was afraid to try laser hair removal because I’ve read that some people have discoloration of their skin. The type of facial hair removal I decided to try was a permanent hair removal cream. Painless and effective.
