I remember the very first one I made. Using a set of Woodworking Project Plans that my grandfather had given me. It was square, about 15″ on each side and it was made of pine, in fact it looked like a small pine box with two handle holes cut into each end. It was the first step stool I ever made. It took me about 4 hours to make it, hey I was only about seven years old and I could not use power tools, so I had to measure and cut all the wood by hand. I nailed and glued it all together and painted it red. It looked great for my first one.
