It’s been a few years now since the release of the xbox 360 gaming unit and the xbox 360 3 red lights problem, which plagued the xbox 360 from the beginning, is still around and still causing problems for xbox 360 gamers. It’s true that the problem is far less prevelant than it was in the first year of the Xbox 360′s release when it’s estimated that about one third of all xbox 360‘s shipped were affected by this problem. Units that were sold during the first year are still going strong in many households but are also still causing problems with the so-called "Red Ring of Death". The problem basically has to do with cooling inside xbox 360 console. The X360 is a very powerful computer and generates a lot of heat. That heat as to go somewhere. In the case of the 360, there is both a fan and cooling holes built into the main console that are supposed to dissipate the excess heat and keep the unit running at a reasonable temperature. The problem is that for extended periods of gaming, too much heat builds up inside the unit and causes failure of one or more hardware components. The three red lights on the outside of the Xbox Console is the game’s way of telling you that it has experienced a hardware failure.The good news is that Microsoft has extended the warranty for the 3 red lights problem to a full three years from the date of purchase for all Xbox 360 owners.
