Originally, in the United Kingdom, the word "vacation" meant specifically to the long summer break taken by the law courts and universities. This was a custom introduced by William the Conqueror from Normandy who intended to facilitate the grape harvest. Looking on another angle, the French term is similar to the American English: "Les Vacances." The term "vacations" derives from the fact back then, upper-class families would literally move to a summer home for part of the year-leaving their usual family home vacant. Meanwhile, holiday is a contraction of the words holy and day-holidays originally represented special religious days but then, this word has evolved in general usage to mean any special day of rest (as opposed to regular days of rest such as the weekend).

Do you know as to when the best time to learn something new is? It is the time between early to mid morning. Why? Because it is in this time when your brain is well-rested and your long term memory really is opening its doors to new information. So, if you have been thinking on when you should learn how to speak French, my suggestion and advice is to do it between 6 am to 12 noon.
This is not a baseless fact, trust me. I got this information from a book about memory and also from an article in Reader’s Digest. Since you don’t know the book from which I got the information from, but knowing Reader’s Digest (don’t know this publication? Medical schools admissions are down and this means that schools want and need more people to apply to their schools. One place they get more students is in other countries. Their are a generally easy US Medical Schools For Foreign Students policy but certain things need to be taken care of first. Although their are slight differences in the application process, such as needing a strong English proficiency, some good letters of recommendation and all the proper immigration paper work needs to be in order, the qualifications for the actual admittance and acceptance to medical schools are the same for foreign students as American students. Medical schools also have a need for diversity to synergize the different backgrounds and potentially innovate the medical profession as well.
