My uncle is a cardiologists and during thanksgiving we had a long chat about how the medical industry is changing. It is his opinion, the reason that health care expenses have risen so much is that there are too many doctors trying to protect themselves from being sued. One of the things he mentioned is cardiology EMR software that they just installed in all of their offices. The great thing about this technology is it allow doctors to better share information digitally. When medical records were kept by hand some doctors and hospital couldn’t read the client files. In a number of circumstances, they would order the same test that the patient had just taken. The reason being is that they weren’t sure the records were reliable.

So I was at the beach, in the water actually. Me and my friend were waiting for the waves to come, but they never did. My friend reached inside his wetsuit and pulled out a waterproof deck of cards. He asked us if we wanted to see some magic tricks revealed. We said sure, why not. It didn’t look like any waves were coming any time soon. So he did a bunch of tricks, and showed us how he did them. We took turns trying. But while we were doing the tricks, we noticed all these sharks came swimming by. They didn’t hang around very long, because just then this huge set came in, and all the surfers paddling to catch the waves scared them off.

My parents divorced when I was just five years old. I don’t have a lot of memories of when they were still married, but I do remember the break up and custody stuff. I think my dad always had a lot of regret about the whole situation. I remember when I was around twelve, he went to a place that specialized in Sacramento custom made jewelry and had a mother’s ring made. I think it was mostly awkward for my mom, as she’d remarried by this point. The ring was absolutely lovely, but she never really wore it. I would have liked to have had it myself one day, but it ended up lost, which was really sad.
