I have been on both sides; dfat travel adviceling with my own – well behaved – child since she was a baby — on some long flights — and have been in the vicinity of many younger children on other flights. My comments; when I travel with my child; I’m totally self – prepared as much as possible; food; etertainment; and I expect nothing from the airline because thats what you get under todays model. Folks; today air travel is a public Bus – when it works well. As for the complaiining childless masses travelling; I say tough for the most part. Its a bus; not your limo or private jet. Its crowded an uncomfortable. I have flown a LOT of long; long (like to Asia) flights in coach and the number of times the noise or whatever have been a real problem…..just a handul really. Babies in particular; the change in air pressure really Hurts! So if you are really unhappy and have status; you’re upgraded and likely don’t have a problem. Not happy; pay for more space — in business. To get to the airport you can take a bus or pay for a private limo. Otherwise; have a little grace and patience towards your fellow travellers people; it will reduce your stress. I will tell you over the years rude adults have offended me way more than rude kids! And some of us need to, and will fly; home to see grandparents. Lose the attitude those who say kids should’nd fly.

The strength of a research university is that its faculty do research. If done well, they are at the forefront of knowledge. If you want the best to teach the students, you must provide them with the opportunity to do the research that makes them the best. Mostly, that means time to do research, and that implies a teaching and education load that to an outsider may appear very small.
In addition, quality teaching at the university level requires a high ratio of preparation time to classroom time. Teaching (for example) a graduate course in electromagnetic theory requires much more preparation than teaching high school algebra. It also requires that the students spend several hours outside the classroom for every hour inside.
I am biased because I am a professor at a research university. But that also means I know what research is and requires.

If you are planning to buy a new home than you should not only make a choice based on how good the house is, you should also take into account the neighborhood it is located in, how people in the neighborhood are, is there are any educational institutions available in the vicinity of this home. Well, these devices have been around for a while now, yet I didn’t see a state stepping in to do something about it, with few exceptions. Which is why the Feds need to do something. The beauty advice of the states being their own incubators and laboratories for democracy is only charming until some idiot runs into me and either kills me or paralyzes me for life because they couldn’t wait a few extra seconds to respond to some Facebook poke or Yahoo Messenger text bit. This is not about state’s rights or fed intrusion. This is about reigning in idiocy. The laws already passed, strict and penalizing as they are, don’t seem to work well. Going to the source, i.e. the manufacturers, is the next logical step. Hard to kill someone reading Facebook when you can’t look at Facebook, while driving, isn’t it ? Trust me, state sovereignty won’t mean a bit to you if you are stuck in a nursing home waiting on someone to wipe your behind because some kid had to read an email. If you wish to take that risk, fine. But don’t expect others to.

Actually since I was a commercial banker my entire career I know something about commercial banks. I said I didn’t know much about huge banks like Bank of America. They are in a different category than local and regional banks. Smaller banks do not own companies like Countrywide and investment banks.
Since the discussion was about too big to fail I was trying to point out that commercial banks have gotten into areas not crucial to banking. Since banks have a quasi monopoly I don’t believe they should get into other businesses.
I don’t mean to talk about myself but since you made untrue assertions I must respond. Of course I know about SBA loans and every other type of commercial loans. I’ve financed almost every type of business found in the midwest including machine shops, retailers, wholesalers, shopping centers, car washes, farmers, doctors, lawyers and dentists. I’ve made them all and i’ve never seen a successful small business advice business yet that was dependent on credit cards for it’s financing After retirement I became a consultant to SBA.
So now maybe you would tell us all how you know so much about small business? Do you own a gas station or perhaps a fix-it shop?

The problem is there’s too many humans on this planet. We breed worse than virus (remember Agent smith from the matrix?) Today, if we divide total land area (including desert, ice sheets, etc) by the total population of the planet, that only leave 5 acres for a person. We as a species needs to cut our numbers, not only because we’ll run out of prime building space, but also because our prime building space is prime habitat space of other advice animals and plants too (yes, plants and animals don’t want to live in deserts or ice sheets either, most of them). And so we’re making more and more species bereft of habitat and pushing them closer and closer to extinction. A hundred years ago, most houses had one room, lucky if they had two. Today 6 year olds have their own room. And most people always forget / discount the huge swaths of farm land (owned by someone else somewhere else in prime habitat space) needed to produce food to feed our numbers.

Even if many people use the payday loans there are some people who think that the payday loans should be the last resort. Still, it is very hard to convince people that it is best to postpone taking a loan. People do not like to search for other solutions that might work; they prefer to use the shortest way. These people do not take into account the fact that getting a loan in their financial situation is the surest way to contract more debts.
