Bodhran information

February 22nd, 2008

Irish Bodhran is one of the more important frame drums. The bodhran is an ancient Irish instrument that I heard once was used as plates or dishware and then became a drum once the more rhythmic African tribes spread their influence North to the Celts. The earliest evidence of any kind that I’ve seen of the bodhran is a late 19th century photograph of an Irish-American band. Once the skin has dried your bodhran is ready to be played. There’s a general belief that walton’s bodhrans are made for tourists. Some bodhrans are so sensitive that even a rainy day can render them temporarily unplayable.
