What is a Pentatonic Scale?

January 30th, 2010

If you have heard of minor pentatonic scales, then you have probably already been scared off a little bit. I mean, let’s face it, pentatonic is simply a great big word that is surprisingly hard to say for a lot of people. But don’t be confused by this hard to pronounce word. It is simply a word to describe a scale of music consisting of five little notes. Hence the prefix, “pent” or “five.” Think of a pentagon. A word describing a shape consisting of five points. So remember that the next time you think about the word pentatonic. It will be much easier to remember now, don’t you think?
