"I learned quickly to inspect my vehicle for maintenance purposes, because the driver is responsible for taking a truck in for repairs," she says. "Now, I automatically check everything from the water level in the battery, to the condition of the tires."

Mrs. Kelly says, "the hardest thing was learning to load and unload materials without jerking (the vehicle) too much. If you jerk too much, you can cause stacked materials to smash or topple – good forklift truck training courses really help you overcome this."

This, she points out, would be disastrous. In a warehouse, where materials are sometimes stacked as high as a three-story building.

"All my forklift safety precautions and maintenance training have become second nature to me," she adds. "What I do Is not that much different from an ordinary automobile driver. However, I’m sure that I’m a better driver in my own car than I was before becoming a forklift operator.
