Looking at a Pontiac Grand Am

I want to buy a new grand am and I am a little bit concerned that the 3800 series engine that comes with the V-6 models is not going to be reliable.
I have read about the coolant gasket giving people problems with leaking after about 75 to 100,000 miles. I looked at Edmunds.com and it seems to be that this is actually a very common problem for the 3800 series engine. In my case, I have to buy a car with bad credit and getting approved is a little tough.
But, these older Grand Am’s seem to be really cool cars and you can pick them up really cheap.
