Be prepared

When you get your first student Mastercard or other credit card be aware of the true cost of the card. What is the interest rate? What are the annual fees to use the card? Be sure to pay it on time and if you don’t know what the penalty is going to be. Credit card companies will set a credit limit for you. You should set your own. Know how much you can afford to spend each month and do not exceed that amount so that you can pay it off when the statement arrives. Never have a joint account with anyone else.
