Compare Investments to a Reasonable Bench Mark

When you are investing, there are many facets to consider. One being the performance of your investment. Most people are concerned about whether their investment went ‘up’. While this is a valid and important question, it is not all you need to consider. You need to compare investment performance to a reasonable bench mark. Meaning, how did your investment do against others in the same category. If your investment made four percent over a twelve month period and an other, in the same area, made eight percent over the same twelve months, then your investment did not perform as well as some in the same category. Although past performance may give you an idea of what will happen, it can not predict the future. Investing in any market is always risky, only invest what you can afford to lose.
