Just How Do Autoresponders Work?

July 11th, 2008

If you want to be able to fully appreciate autoresponders, you need to know what they are. Perhaps these would help: How is it possible that, after signing up for a newsletter, you almost instantaneously get a thank you note from the website? Or how is it possible that that ebook quickly came to your inbox a little after you paid for it with your credit card? Those quick replies were actually made possible because of autoresponders. So how do autoresponders work? If you have an autoresponder program, the first thing you need to do is to assign a specific mailing list to the auto-responders, which can really be easy since they work very much like the automatic filters of your email client. If your autoresponder has a "thank you" message specific to people who just signed up for your website, then you might want to assign all the people in your mailing list to that autoresponder. The keys of the auto-responder are the "custom field" and "assign".
