Can Masking Reduce the Effects of Tinnitus
June 30th, 2010
If you try the faucet test but can still hear the noises of tinnitus then this does not automatically mean that masking is unable to help you. What it might mean is that your hearing loss due to the disorder may be enough that the masking action is not strong enough to drown out the other noises in your head. It has been estimated that as many as 90 percent of individuals who suffer from this medical problem also suffer from varying degrees of hearing loss. In particular it is the loss of high-pitched tones which are most common. If this is the case, then in order for masking to be effective, a high-pitched noise is required.
