Ear Protection And Industrial Deafness

May 28th, 2008

There are two types of ear protection available for an individuals to use within the workplace to combat the problem of industrial deafness.  The first type of protection are ear plugs.  These small synthetic protectors are pushed inside the outer ear but need to be made in a tube or torpedo shape to work properly.  Ear plugs are used in pairs connected with a plastic ‘string’ and are disposable.  They shouldn’t be reused. Ear protectors, or ear muffs, fit over the head with padded protection over each ear.  These are permanent items of personal equipment but must be fitted to ensure a snug, sealed fit.

As with all types of personal protection care must be taken to ensure that the equipment is free from defects and are used in an appropriate manner.
