Wondering What to do with Rain Barrels in Winter

I live in New England. We have rainy springs and either rainy or snowy winters. We also have a lot of down pours through out the summer. It would be great if I could do something with all of that rain! I have been thinking about collecting it, but I am wondering what to do with rain barrels in winter. I do not have any where to store something that large. I would like to get one that I could leave outside, even if it is cold out. I am going to look online to see what I could do with one.
