The Difference Between Optical and Digital Zoom

October 16th, 2009

When out looking for a camera with built in optics it can get confusing when you see the term 30X zoom and the next one says 10X zoom. Be careful here because there is a big difference between an optical and Digital Zoom. Optical zoom is of course the real thing meaning it will zoom from one end to the other using glass optics. After that you can zoom in closer but software is used to create this effect. When zooming digitally it can create lots of noise in the image which changes the quality of the image and the loss of resolution.  The best way to know what your buying is to use a new site called www.eCCTVbids.com to ask the one’s who know. Many supplier are signed up just ready to help you choose. There are many different types of cameras with built in optics like camcorders and teleconference cameras, etc. Just make sure you choose the best fit for your application.
