Banking in Costa Rica

December 30th, 2008

If you are moving to Costa Rica or considering to buy Costa Rica property, you should understand the banking systems in that country.  The Costa Rica government has four national banks and there are about 23 private banks that operate within Costa Rica.  Some of those banks are Citibank out of the USA and Bank of Nova Scotia from Canada.  The national banks of Costa Rica are guaranteed and there is no limit.  The national banks offer checking, savings and investment services and have proven to be safe and reliable, but often times there are many procedures at the expense of your needs.  With any foreign venture, you should do your due diligence on the bank as access to your money could be limited if you operate outside of Costa Rica.
